TOP 5 TIPS FOR IMPROVING ENERGY
If you are constantly waking up tired and craving that morning caffeine hit, it’s likely that your adrenals are out. This is the perfect time to implement my top 5 tips for improving energy!
1. GET MORE SLEEP & IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR SLEEP
Did you know we get our deepest ‘rest and repair’ sleep between 9pm and midnight? After 9pm is our dream state where our sleep is not as deep and we can be woken easily. This is an important reason to turn off those screens 30 mins before you go to sleep so your melatonin can start to regulate.
If you are getting sleep but experiencing wakefulness, this can be problematic as it takes the body 20-30 mins to come out of sleep and 20-30 mins to get back to sleep. So if you’re waking once in the night, you are losing up to 1 – 1.5 hours of sleep per night.
If this is the case, consider taking pure magnesium before bed. Check your supplement doesn’t contain any B vitamins that may stimulate you. You can also try an Epsom salts bath for inducing restful sleep.
2. MORNING RITUAL
Work on a morning ritual that honours you - enjoy a warm cup of tea quietly in the sun, meditation or some light movement or exercise. I love to make ceremonial cacao and I diffuse some essential oils to protect my energy (I love Stress Away, Lavender and Endoflex from Young Living).
3. BOUNDARIES
Often we are giving out more than we are giving to ourselves. Set up clearer boundaries and ask for help or support - these are my go to’s when I’m feeling drained and tired.
4. REDUCE CAFFEINE SUGAR AND INCREASE PROTEIN
Reduce caffeine intake and drink herbal tea, a bulletproof hot chocolate or ceremonial cacao so the adrenal glands can heal from the stress.
Cut any added sugars to stabilise blood sugar levels and mood.
Increase protein. Protein is so important and quite lacking in the Australian diet. We require 1gm of protein per kilo of body weight. Protein can come from meat and eggs but also vegetables, seeds and other plant-based foods.
5. DIET
If you are tired I would look at your intake of vegetables and essential nutrients for energy. Foods that are rich in B vitamins are
· Organic pate
· Organic grass-fed red meat
· Wild salmon
· Green leafy vegetables
· Organic eggs
· Hemp seeds
These are my top 5 tips, but after looking at all these areas of health I would also look at emotional weight, spiritual weight (e.g being out of alignment with your purpose), your previous traumas, your SNPS MTHFR, HLA or COMT genes that can disrupt our ability to metabolise and create energy.
